on to happier things...

mickey cake, originally uploaded by SIMPLY.MADE.

so since the computer was down last week, I never got the chance to show off this year's cake! Matthew was quite thrilled to wake up to find this guy iced and ready to eat in the kicthen. He could hardly wait for the rest of the crew to show up so we could sing and eat.

we had to sing twice... the first time he was having trouble blowing out the candle (despite our MANY practice sessions with candles since Christmas) and got really upset when a friend helped.. "Mahoo TURN!!"

excitement!, originally uploaded by SIMPLY.MADE.

but tell me, have you ever seen so much happiness on a little guy's face? pretty much the theme of the day since he's now old enough to know it's all about him. :)

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE!

Just got back from a baby doctor visit... My blood pressure was high!! Holy smackerel I can't believe it. I mean- that was the whole reason that they induced labor with Matthew- so I shouldn't be too too shocked, but MAN!! that really stinks!!

The Doctor isn't too worried about it right now... she said to try not to worry about it and just live life as normal... so what am I doing? trying oh so hard not to PANIC!!! :)

I go back in 2 weeks so they can check my blood pressure again and look into medicines if necessary. They're not expecting that it's pre-eclampsia or anything because it was fine last week. I also lost 3 pounds this month- which makes me worry because with baby #1 I gained an insane amount... but they say it's totally normal.

OK- I'm going to go get something to eat and try to take a short nap... yep. I think that'll make me feel better. :P

'painting' the chalk board

'painting' the chalk board, originally uploaded by SIMPLY.MADE.

our eraser for our ikea chalk board doesn't work as well as hoped, but I found a more exciting way to erase the chalk any way... a wet sponge brush (15 cents at a craft store) makes 'painting' the chalk away tons of fun for little people.

big boy bed

big boy bed, originally uploaded by SIMPLY.MADE.

Matthew has been in his big boy bed for almost 2 weeks now! Glad to announce that he's doing well and is glad to show his new bed to anyone who comes to visit. Most nights he's only been waking up once a night. The past 2 nights I've realized that he talks in his sleep and if I wait a little bit, sometimes he'll fall back to sleep with out any help at all... now if only we can keep it this way and impove. I have the feeling that as soon as I write about this- it will get really really bad... which is why I've waited almost 2 weeks. :)

clearing out the old

purses, originally uploaded by SIMPLY.MADE.

to my dear friends, let me know if there's a purse you've got your eye on. I've decided that there's no point in keeping cute purses that I won't get to use because they won't hold a dipaer, wipes, a sippy cup and a snack... especially when there's to be double the diapers soon. First come first serve kind of deal- e-mail me or leave a comment to let me know if there's one you want.

ETA: also up for grabs will be my white purse with pink polka dots and light brown straps, and no, the coffe spill is no longer visable.

Matthew started sleeping in a big boy bed this weekend. The first night he woke up about 6 times- last night we were down to one... but with a VERY early start to the day. It's a bit scary the first time you meet your baby in the hallway in the middle of the night-

my first mod podge

this weekend I took some time to do a project I've been meaning to start since Christmas. This was a shoe box that held all of our painting supplies- well, Matthew's any how... not so pretty sitting on our shelf. a little mod podge, a map and some scrap book paper and now we have a great looking storage box. Too bad we don't have an army of small cars to store in here- the road map would bee too cool of a box lid then... oh well, one day I'm sure we will. :)

I'm in love

oscar's duvet cover, originally uploaded by Hillary Lang.

I doubt I'm as talented as Hillary- but I really want to try to make a duvet cover/ quilt similar to this one.

Masks

Some good Father Son time tonight. Super hero masks and snakes to chop up. I'm not sure which Matthew found more amusing.

to slipcover, or not?

I think I like the slipcovers better, though usually slipcovers are not on the list of things I like... These give the sofa a much softer and more versatile look. Though I could fool myself into thinking I'll one day learn how to make a custom slipcover, I think store bought is the way to go, if we're going that way.... I still can't decide. I think that washing and ironing would help the look, but I'm trying not to put in that extra work if I'm just going to decide that the sofas look silly with them on... plus then how do return something knowing you've washed it?

joyful

arriving July of 2008. We're still praying for a great outcome, though nothing at this point leads us to believe to expect otherwise.

Today I think I'll be someone else.

This afternoon Matthew found and wore some non-prescription glasses. How hilarious he was. He wanted to show his dad but "Daddy RARR!!" :D Don't know if that meant dad would be scared or that dad would scare Matthew...

But really- have you ever wanted to be someone else, for just a day? I know I have before, but not at all lately. I've been quite happy with who I am and what I spend my days doing/ who I spend my days with. Matthew's vocabulary is blossoming so quickly. I realize that one day it's going to be a challenge to take care of a little one so little and new that no one knows why the crying starts. Until then though, I'm just going to enjoy being me.
